Around the Stables
I’m always looking for ways to amuse my horses and add to their comfort while they are hanging around with nothing to eat. At the same time, my husband looks for ways to keep the horses from pushing on the fencing panels. Here are a few ideas we’ve employed to satisfy all parties,
Hay String Curtain
I don’t remember where I read about these curtains, it may have been Natural Horse Magazine, but my horses are thrilled that I decided to give this idea a try. These hay string curtains help keep flies and mosquitoes away. I believe they also offer some kind of security for the horses because they often sleep with the strings resting somewhere on their bodies. You can see Granite is sleeping with a string forelock.
Mounted Broom Brush
Here you can see Monty grooming his face on the industrial broom heads my husband bolted to the side of the shed. We had one Warmblood with an itching problem and that horse was destroying our fences, so we provided this broom brush for him and all of the horses use it.
