The Mission of Whole Horse Training
When I established Whole Horse Training in 1995, I set my intention on educating horse owners about the Whole picture of equine management. This means that proper dental and hoof maintenance are essential. Tack must be kept to a minimum and fitted comfortably. Since bad riding is as devastating to a horse’s body as bad saddle fit, riders need to learn to ride so as not to burden their horses and the bodies of both horse and rider require regular maintenance in order to move efficiently and with ease. Finally, every horse owner should learn enough about all aspects of horse care to make informed decisions on behalf of their horse when it comes to hiring veterinarians, trainers, instructors, dentists, or farriers. We are the caregivers and we are responsible for our horses’ well-being. Nancy Camp
Meet Nancy Camp - Professional Sketch
Nancy has been involved in the equine industry since attending the Horsemaster’s course at the Potomac Horse Center in 1973. She taught riding and trained horses while attending commercial art school and obtaining her Master’s degree in Art History. Nancy managed a variety of equine boarding and training facilities and operated a tack and feed retail store. She worked as a veterinary assistant for eleven years, tending to both large and small animals. As her focus shifted to a holistic approach to equine management, Nancy completed courses of study in acupressure for horses and dogs, equine and canine craniosacral and osteopathic unwinding techniques. Nancy adapted High Touch® Jin Shin for use on animals, teaching workshops and producing a video about doing the work with horses. Throughout the years, Nancy has worked with racehorses, hunters and jumpers, three-day and dressage horses, as well as pleasure horses of many different breeds.
Nancy trained as a Connected Riding® instructor with Peggy Cummings. She employs the knowledge of body awareness gained from working with guild certified Feldenkrais® instructor, Robert Spencer, at EquiMotion workshops in her instruction.
Eager to combine her interests in horses and art, Nancy does a variety of freelance illustration work and especially enjoys equestrian related topics.
Nancy illustrated Peggy Cumming’s book, Connected Riding™, An Introduction, Keys to Connection, and contributed illustrations for Connect with Your Horse from the Ground Up, also by Peggy Cummings.
Nancy illustrated Maureen Roger’s Equine Craniosacral Workbooks 1-4 and the Canine Craniosacral Workbook 1.
